Cincinnati Flying Pig Half Marathon- May 3, 2009

Well, it has been a while since we have ran a marathon, however we managed to pull ourselves out of bed early for this year’s Cincinnati Flying Pig Marathon!  We have done this one every year for the past 5 or 6 years!  This year they were forecasting 70% chance of rain so I wasn’t really looking forward to 13.1 miles of sogginess.  Well, we lucked out!  Just a few drops along the way and actually it turned out to be some of the best running weather we have had in a while!

I will have to say though that the hills really got me this year!  I think they may have changed the course or I just forgot how tough this one is!  It seemed as though every corner we turned there was another hill!   I still totally enjoy this marathon and will continue to run this each year.

Memories

– Having my daughter in-law run this year with us!  I am so glad that someone in our family is also interested in running!  Looking forward to running many more with he just need to get my sons running!

– The bridges- I really love these as they keep the scenery very interesting!

– Ault Park- very beautiful, serene, hilly but beautiful!

To get into the New York Marathon insures a very diverse race by implementing a raffle type registration.  There is a window where you can go and enter the raffle and they choose the names and let you know whether you have been chosen.  We had a great time visiting the city and seeing some of the great sites as well as really enjoying the BIG City!

Race Day

What can I say!!  It was all that I thought it would be and more!!  We were very fortunate as we had a perfect day for running.  The Highs were in the 50’s and it was mostly cloudy!  I would have to say that this one was very comparable to Chicago as far as the crowds!  It was amazing how many people showed up to cheer the runners on!  Typically I start doing the run/walk at about mile 3 but the energy from the crowd kept me running most of the way.  It was great running through all of the burbs as it really gave us an opportunity to see New York!!!  I would definitely recommend this one to anyone who is looking for a great time and easy course and lots of loud crowds!!!  This event was well organized!!!

Memories

  • Spending Extra time in New York
  • Statue of Liberty
  • Visiting all the burbs!
  • Another Marathon completed!
